Problem : How do you take an offline business online? How to offer a service that is predominantly carried through networking offline? What are those changes in business rules that have to be done to make it a viable business online? These were some questions that were raised as part of requirements.
Solution : Requirement trawling was the first step. Then came prototyping of bigger use cases. Followed by wireframing the entire solution. Upon wireframe approvals we prioritised module delivery.
Making various tools like appointment calendar, booking / reservation tool, payment tool, special interest diary etc., be easily accessible to users was a challenge. This led to more complexity because usability rules demanded that users should be able to intuitively adapt to these tools. What's more? Data from all these tools were integrated seamlessly to provide a single view to both users and administrators.
Infact, our AJAX skills sharpened as a result of this project. Cross browser compatible Ajax was used as the primary UI engine. Business logic was componentized.
Our experience in building web 2.0 applications helped immensely in building this portal to solve the primary problem of getting a truly offline business online.
